Although one of the goals of this type of travel is to take your time and see the sights, we decided to get home a bit quicker than our outbound 4 day trip. We combined our two short days of travel into one. Goshen to Mammoth Cave turned into a 7 hour plus drive for us but by stopping every hour or two it was not too bad.
We drove through Fort Wayne Indiana which is the home office and manufacturing plant for Vera Bradley. Does anybody else find it ironic that the building is such a drab color? Wouldn’t a nice colorful pattern be more appropriate?
We arrived at Diamond Caverns RV and Golf Resort several hours before dark. What a neat place! We both really wanted to stay there longer and use the time to see the area and the caverns. The resort had a mini golf course as well as an 18-hole golf course across the street. If you stay at the park, you get a 50% discount on the golf. I don’t know the quality of the course but if it is really bad then it will perfectly match my current golf game! The campground is actually within the Mammoth Cave National Park Area.
Since we were trying to make it back home, we resolved that this would be a place we will definitely visit when we have more time. A full week here would give us time to explore some of the hiking trails in the National Park, the multiple caverns in the area and give me a chance to check out some of the courses.
On the way home, we drove through the Huntsville/Decatur Alabama area. One of the cool things there is the life sized mockup of a Saturn 5 rocket at the rest area. It is a bit shocking as you come around a curve on I-65 and see the rocket standing in front of you.
Once we arrived at home, we had a good night’s sleep. We got up and emptied the RV. Jimmie Kay took this photo of me sitting in the driver’s seat drinking my AM coffee.
We came inside and found that the movie RV starring Robin Williams was on. Jimmie Kay thought that the photo she took of me was a lot like this one of him in the movie.
We are ready for our next trip!
