The RV has been sitting for 3 weeks and we are ready to get it back on the road. First, we have another non-RV activity to complete.
On the day of the recent Supreme Court decision regarding same sex marriage, our daughter Jennie, and her girlfriend, Stephanie, did what they should have done. They went to the courthouse in Bexar County Texas, and got married. After they were legally bonded, it was time for a celebration. They chose Birmingham since Jennie went to high school in Birmingham and they both attended the nearby University of Alabama.
The party and celebration was fantastic. Both sides had family come from all over the country. Friends from my college years came, as well as a host of home town people and a great time was had by all.
After they recited their vows, they went outside for a few quick photos. Inside, we set up a gauntlet for them to run through, complete with Alabama shakers and Sweet Home Alabama background music.
The purpose of this blog is to talk about being full time RVers and the places we go and what we eat. I felt compelled to write this entry due to the 3 venues we used for the weekend. Please accept this as our shameless solicitation of your business for them. You will not be disappointed.
Springhill Suites at UAB was the host hotel. They were most accommodating and had the best staff we have encountered in a big city, urban hotel. It seemed like all their staff went out of their way to make sure that our guests were taken care of. Their special treatment was appreciated by all of our guests.
The venue for the wedding was B & A Warehouse. If you are ever in the need of a venue in Birmingham, please use them. Not for me, but because it will be the best party you have ever had. Inett Handley is the event planner at B & A. She took care of every detail that we needed. She took it as her personal task to make sure that we were satisfied, not only with the product, but also the price. Unfortunately, I was too busy with other tasks that night to take photos of the food. Please go to their website and look at what they offer.
Here is a pic so you can see what the venue looks like.
The next morning, we had a brunch at the Continental Bakery Downtown, at their location in downtown Birmingham. Rachael Tatum and Chef Holley went way out to make us happy. We actually increased our expected number by 50% two days prior to the event, but they came through beautifully. Fresh and delicious food served buffet style in a wonderful loft setting.
It was a wonderful weekend celebrating a wonderful event. Thanks to all that attended for being a part of the celebration!
NEXT UP: Back in the RV for a Florida Beach Tour.
